I Also Serve

I do not wear a uniform:  Blues or BDUs,
But there are so many other things for this country that I do.

I have never sworn that if necessary I'd give my life,
But I know first-hand what it means to sacrifice.

I do not stand at attention when the "National Anthem" starts,
But I will never forget to raise my hand to my heart.

I have never had a new rank pinned on my sleeve,
But I have pinned on rank for he who is the world to me.

I do not say, "Yes, Sir" out of dutiful obligation,
But I always say "Thank you" to those who defend our nation.

I have never counted the long days 'til I came home,
But I know how it feels to be in that same home all alone.

I have not watched my children grow only in photographs,
But I must have the answer, when "Where is Daddy?" they ask.

I am not a military member, of that I am sure,
But as a military spouse, I also serve.
